Description
The Kwinana Freeway extension and Forrest Highway was a dynamic and challenging infrastructure project, involving the design and construction of 70.5 km of dual carriageway from Safety Bay Road in Baldivis to Old Coast Road in Lake Clifton.
Wormall Civil was contracted to win and load sand from numerous sand quarries along the route of the roadworks, and to construct and maintain limestone access roads. The company loaded approximately 12 million tonnes of sand for the project over a period of 18 months.
At the project’s peak, the haulage operations involved a fleet of approximately 200 trucks, hauling some 50,000 tonnes per day and travelling a combined distance of 50,000 km per day. Approximately 800 pieces of plant and machinery were approved to operate on-site.
The project team worked a total of 3.8 million man-hours to construct the road without a single lost time injury.
