Witchcliffe Ecovillage was previously occupied by two farms: an organic vineyard and a hobby beef cattle farm.
Witchcliffe is a small rural hamlet 8kms south of Margaret River and a little more than three hours drive from Perth in Western Australia’s beautiful South West.
Wormall Civil proudly commenced work at Witchcliffe Ecovillage in 2020.
Witchcliffe Ecovillage was the first South West project we were awarded and assisted in establishing our position in the area.
Wormall Civil undertook the below works:
- 7,900m of sewer reticulation which also includes twenty of Smartstream Technology’s innovate Smart Pit
- 2,000m of sewer pressure main & three waste water pumping stations
- 3,200m of reinforced concrete drainage & 2,400m of PVC drainage
- 7,500m of water reticulation
- 13,800m of electrical cable & 7 transformers
- 13,700m of communication pipe
- 41,500m2 of asphalt pavement
- In addition the two Bussell Highway intersections
Part of the appeal of the Witchcliffe site was that it was already cleared farmland, with small pockets of forest and an abundance of water, abutting the small town of Witchcliffe. Although degraded by clearing and historical agricultural practices, the 8.84ha of remnant bushland and re-vegetated creeklines have great habitat potential and have been set aside as conservation zones to be rehabilitated and preserved for future Ecovillage residents to care for and enjoy.
Potential human impact on wildlife will be minimised through landscaped corridor plantings to provide links between bush areas and by strata bylaws that will control domestic animals and the use of chemicals within the Ecovillage.
Wormall Civil have thoroughly enjoyed working with the team at Witchcliffe Ecovillage, and we are thankful for the opportunity to work on such a remarkable project.
